Reports Matter: Inside Our Updated Penalty and Safety System

We have overhauled our penalty system. Learn how reports protect the grid, how the new Hood system restores what you lost, and how Safety Rating puts fair racing in your hands.

Fair, clean racing is the foundation of everything we do at XCLusive. It is what makes a grid worth lining up on, and it only works when the community holds itself to a high standard. That is why reports matter so much. Every report you submit helps us keep XCL a safer, fairer place to race, and we have just given our old penalty system a major overhaul to make that process better for everyone.

Here is everything you need to know.

Why we are strict with video submissions

To hand out penalties fairly, our stewards need to see exactly what happened. Getting this wrong means handing out false penalties, and that is something we refuse to do. For that reason, we have clear requirements for every video submission.

Ideally, we want three separate video links, all with the HUD on so we can clearly see the names of the drivers involved. Of those three, we need two POV angles plus one outside view, either a helicopter cam or a chase cam of the perpetrator. Both outside angles are even better if you can provide them.

These requirements exist for one simple reason: so that no penalty is ever given out in error. The more complete the evidence, the fairer the outcome.

The Hood system: get back what you lost

Reporting is not just about justice, it is about recovery. With our new Hood system, almost 40 percent of the rating penalty applied to the perpetrator is restored directly to the reporter.

If someone takes your race from you, a report gives you a real path to getting back what you lost. That is the whole point.

Penalty multipliers

Alongside the Hood system and Safety Rating, we also apply penalty multipliers based on where and when an incident happens.

A normal incident carries a standard 1x penalty. For lap 1 incidents, stewards have the option to apply a 2x multiplier when deemed necessary. And for lap 1 incidents that occur in designated crash zones(places where the same crashes often happen, i.e. Monza T1), stewards can hand out a 3x multiplier when deemed necessary.

The message is simple: the opening lap and the crash zones demand extra care, and the penalties reflect that.

Report in confidence

We know some drivers hesitate to report. That is why reporters can now hide their name and gamertag. The perpetrator will see that they have been reported, but only our stewards can see who filed it. You can report with complete confidence.

Track everything on the reports page

Reporting is now easier than ever. From the reports page, you can simply select a driver from a race you were actually in, no more manual entry. Please note you will need to wait until results and ratings have been finalised before you can submit your report.

The reports page also shows your personal active reports as well as any times you have been reported. You will receive a message when a report is filed against you, and again once a penalty decision has been made.

If you have connected your Discord to your profile, we can also notify you there when you have been reported. It is well worth linking your account.

You can access it all here: xclusiveracing.com/reports

Penalty codes explained

For full transparency, here is what each penalty code means:

  • NONE: Minimum requirements not met, or a duplicate report by the same driver.
  • RI (Racing Incident): Hard racing contact, no penalty.
  • UI (Unnecessary Impeding): Blocking in qualifying via blue flags, or out-lap blocking.
  • WEV (Weaving): Extreme weaving, not allowed in XCL.
  • MUB (Moving Under Braking): Moving toward a driver in the braking zone while within radar or overtaking range.
  • ULC (Unsportsmanlike Conduct): Breaking event rules, such as split qualifying, pit lane white line violations, or cutting the track in qualifying.
  • DR (Dangerous Rejoin): Rejoining from outside track limits and causing time loss for others.
  • IBF (Ignoring Blue Flags): Defending against a lapping car. See the blue flag rules.
  • CT (Contact): Contact between cars.
  • DD (Dangerous Driving): Highly unpredictable behaviour that endangers nearby drivers.
  • FDOT (Forcing a Driver Off Track): Pushing a driver alongside off track through contact or avoidance.
  • CASC (Causing a Small Collision): Minor contact, minor damage.
  • CAC (Causing a Collision): Mid-range damage and time loss.
  • CAHC (Causing a Heavy Collision): Heavy contact and large time loss.
  • CAIC (Causing an Intentional Collision): Intentional contact. Always results in a ban review.

If you have been wronged, do not hold back

If someone has cost you a race, make the report. It gives you back what you lost, and it helps us make XCL a safer place for everyone on the grid. This system only works when the community uses it.

Safety Rating: the grid is in your hands

Alongside the penalty system, our Safety Rating system puts fair racing directly in your control.

Every new driver starts on a 4.0 Safety Rating. Competing earns you a new rating, with 9.99 being the highest possible. Any penalty you receive will also affect your SR, which means you, as a member, control how safe our grids are.

We will be rolling out more events with higher SR requirements to guarantee clean, safe racing, but this only works if you help us. Race clean, and your rating will reflect it.

Join the stewards team

Want to be part of the team that keeps our racing fair? You can apply to become a steward on our Join The Team page, and you can do it straight from your phone.

Together, we keep XCL clean. Report, race fair, and let's build the safest grids in sim racing.
